Boy Crisis + Run Hide Survive Remix

With their highly successful night 'Club Pony' to run, and a deluge of production work to keep up with, the Run Hide Survive boys seem to create a mini flurry of excitement around every new release. Sheffield seems to have created its own microcosm of electro in recent years, which is rather northern in essence - unpretentious, friendly and definately 'up for it'. This feel is carried through into the remix of the Boy Crisis tune 'L'Homme'.

The next '& Down' it is not, but it doesn't try, or indeed want to be. Mike, from RHS even mentions his love for disco as being a driving factor of many of his sets at Club Pony. This latest remix would easily fit into a range of electro sets, without having to blow peoples ear off to get the attention of the crowd.

I first heard the RHS boys via their massive hoover-y beast that is 'Dyson', however it was a shame less was done with the track back in 07' when distorted bangers were the flavour of the month. So naturally, I was delighted when something a little more intricate came my way. This new remix takes a more 'intelligent' slant towards danceable electro, with a subdued darker beat, smooth buildup and a swelling technoey vibe. The remix is rounded off nicely with interweaved indie vocals from Boy Crisis, with a bleep here and a smidge of piano there.

Im glad that RHS have moved with the times and developed their sound along the way. I still crave that in your face synth every now and again, but this song is more thoughtful and hits all the right spots.

Although its still a while before i think Run Hide Survive hit the 'big time', a strong reputation up north and a consistent level of quality releases like this will make that journey a whole lot easier. Its just a shame they are so damn busy we don't get to hear more.

Major Operated Lazer Coin Boy

Im feeling a little overwhelmed by the Major Lazer remixes flooding in right now, but seeing as this one is rather funky, you should get involved.

Coin Operated Boy is a lad from Sheffield, close to my roots and all that. He produces 'meaty beats and pimpy synths' which sums up this remix of 'Hold the Line'.

The ragga vibes are stripped away and the track reverts back to classic electro sylings, with metalic synthy stabs, crispy drum beats and slowed down, more rhythmic vocals.
